The Scoop
Remember we are a volunteer organization with limited volunteers and NO paid positions. We are not in any way affiliated with the City of Algona, Kossuth County, or the state of Iowa. We do as much as we can for as many animals as possible.
Unfortunately we cannot solve every animal problem that comes up.
- We definitely cannot handle any wild animals (raccoons, squirrels, wild birds, wild rabbits, etc.) Please contact the Kossuth County DNR.
- We do not resolve disputes between neighbors or any two parties. No matter if an animal is involved or not. These issues would be handled by your city or county authorities and animal control, which we are not.
- We have been inspected by the state and follow their guidelines for animal care and well-being. We are not experts, but we care, and promise to do our best for the animals in our care at all times.
- No individual circumstance you see can be assumed to be the norm. Nothing you hear is reason to assume it's true. If you have questions or concerns, volunteer and get involved. Any reservations you may have will quickly be resolved.
- We cannot be at any citizen's immediate disposal. We are a private volunteer organization and have limited space/resources. Most of our volunteers work full time jobs.
- Instances of animal abuse/neglect are criminal matters and MUST be reported to the police/sheriff. If you want us to be aware of the situation we can try to help, but everything MUST go through the police/sheriff.
- We CANNOT seize animals from anyone, even if they are abandoned; the proper authorities need to be involved.
- We WILL NOT do anything illegal, and risk exposing the rescue or individuals in the rescue to criminal or civil repercussions.
- Some cats are feral, and cannot be introduced into homes. Feral cats, if the population is kept under control, can be beneficial to towns/cities. If you have questions or concerns about feral cats please let us know. We will let you know how you can help.
- Please do not try and take found animals to local pet stores. They are not a shelter & are strictly monitored ,on what they can and can't do.
- Please do not demand we help you, or assume we can help you. There are certain things we just can't do, or are not able to help with. Consider donating your time with us to see how things work.
